Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic Surgery is also commonly referred to as minimal access surgery, or keyhole surgery.

The days of intrusive abdominal surgery with big scars and long recovery times are gone.  Laparoscopic surgery involves minimal access via a small abdominal incision.

The process takes its name from the laparoscope, a slender tool that has a tiny video camera and light on the end. It is inserted through a small cut and Dr Flynn can then look at a video monitor and see what’s happening inside you. Special tools are used in this procedure. Working this way has several advantages compared with traditional surgery, as it has less cutting, and is less invasive.

This approach has changed all that we do in gynaecology, and the advantages to patients have been outstanding.

The Benefits

Laparoscopic surgery typically results in:

  • less pain,
  • faster recovery,
  • minimal scarring,
  • early return to normal activity, and
  • reduced risk of infection
